When issue #803 will be solved, I will add annotations and a translation in a .tex file, but I think the music sheet itself is worth being published at this stage.

Search function unable to match accented characters to unaccented search terms

The searchbox function in Mutopia website is accent-sensitive, when it shouldn't be. Thus:

    • a search for "dvorak" yields no pieces by composer Dvořák
    • a search for "debussy prelude" yields no records

  • Default top/bottom minimum margins

    Default top/bottom minimum margins

Comparing some of the older Mutopia PDF's to newer-published ones, I suspect the default top/bottom margins have been reduced on later LilyPond versions. Looking at the references, default margin is now 6mm for top/bottom.

I tested printing some of our later reviewed pieces on couple HP laserjet printers and got truncated output when I used the "actual size" printing option instead of "fit to printable area". These printers have ~7mm non-printable area from the page edges.

Acrobat turns on the "Fit to printable area" printing option whenever a larger-than-possible document is loaded, but the Ubuntu default pdf viewer doesn't. Another concern is loss of printout quality when downscaled by the PDF reader.

I think we should strive to engrave sheet music having 7-8mm minimum top/bottom margins for new publications to ensure printer compatibility.

That being said, any ideas on best way to reliably implement this?

  • Music fix and cleanup/update to LilyPond version 2.20.0

Music fix and cleanup/update to LilyPond version 2.20.0

Fixed cis->dis in bar 4 Removed paper configuration that didn't affect layout Removed commented-out properties Removed "piece" property (redundant, as "opus" was also specified with the same value) Fixed composer birth year

Note: the footer markup is still mangled (and was so before I made any changes), and I'm not sure how to fix it without completely reworking the layout to two pages.

Tested with both A4 and Letter paper sizes.

  • AlkanCV Op26 Marche Funebre

    AlkanCV Op26 Marche Funebre

This is the sheet music for C-V Alkan's Marche Funebre, Op.26. It is based on F. Lucca's (~1847) source. However, I made a few edits as this was for my own pleasure that I list here for clarity:

    1. I halved the tempo and all note durations for a better fit with the mood of the piece.
    2. I changed key signature as appropriate whereas the source resolutely sticks with a single key signature despite clear and extended changes.
    3. To reduce the number of pages and generally improve layout, for some measures I make use of a single stave for both hands. I find this perfectly easy to read (and superior to the source), but I concede it is not conventional.

Beyond this it is broadly fastidious in adhering to the source.

As a note, I wrote this using my own python library. I have put the url as the maintainer, but if this is not acceptable, please use my name (Thomas Morgan).

Edit to add: Because this was written first in python and then compiled by a machine into lilypond it fails to meet best practices. If you want I can include the python code, which is more nicely formatted. I may also be able to tweak the python library to better approximate best practices in its output. I don't really fancy manually editing the lilypond code to bring it in to line though!

    Thanks, Tom
